History: TMNT 2012 Wiki Season summaries - Raphael's story is largely shared with his brothers so season summaries make the best sense to link.
Personality: Abrasive, mouthy and obstinate; such are Raphael's most identifying characteristics. Of his brothers he is the most passionate, unafraid to speak his mind or follow through with his beliefs despite whatever else might be said. It seems he has to learn things the hard way at times, but his decisions will always be his, and he isn't afraid to get back up after a hard fall.
If there's one thing that really creeps him out, it's bugs, roaches in particular. He feels that he's mostly gotten over them, especially after being stuck on a planet full of giant bugs. But really, can anyone blame him for getting anxious around creepy crawly critters?
When it comes to his family and friends, he is very much over-protective of them. Naturally he is close to his brothers and foster father, the only family he has and knows. Despite his sometimes sullen attitude and contrary behavior, Raphael loves his family deeply. While it may not always seem as such, he respects Splinter who has raised and taught them as his own sons. His relationship with his brothers varies from one to the next but ultimately he is willing to do anything for them, and woe to those who bring them harm for they have his anger to deal with.
Of the four brothers, Raphael is the second oldest and the strongest of the Turtles. He takes his training seriously, and when it comes to being prepared for a situation as a ninja should, it's between him and Leonardo. The two however cannot possibly be more polar opposite than they are, with Leonardo tending to do things by the book while Raphael prefers to just jump right into things and improvise as he goes. He's not afraid to challenge his brother's leadership and direction, which usually leads to him getting into trouble. Yet he's learned that the role of a leader is a heavy burden, and begrudgingly he's come to respect Leonardo for that, for being able to make decisions while still looking out for the rest of the brothers. Still, of the four, Raphael is perhaps second most responsible after Leonardo, but it's taken him some time and experiences to come to that point. He has the potential of being a leader just like his eldest brother, a position that he on occasion will naturally fall into whenever Leo might be absent or incapacitated.
Raphael can be reckless, and his tendency for violence goes without saying. He'd rather settle things with his fists and weapons than with words. Against an opponent he can be downright vicious, if not a little sadistic. There's no doubt that he'd deliver a deadly blow given the chance and there have been times that he's barely caught himself from doing so to his own allies and brothers. Unafraid to risk his own life when it comes down to going head-to-head with an enemy, he's very confident in his skills. Sometimes he can be a little too confident, but he's stubborn enough not to quit, which can be a problem when the best option is a tactical retreat. One might say he's just plain mean, and it's true, he does have an attitude. Quick-tempered, he can fly into a blind rage, becoming extremely dangerous to those around him if not just endanger himself. It's a weakness he knows he needs to work on, but also a deep part of what makes Raphael, Raphael.
Abilities: Raphael's been trained in the ancient and secretive arts of ninjutsu and various martial arts techniques, including a few meditative states. He's well-versed in hand-to-hand combat and an array of close-quarters melee weapons, as well with projectiles such as bow and arrows and shuriken. His favored weapon of choice is a pair of sai, which might resemble daggers but are actually pronged batons of a sort, their pointed ends just as deadly in skilled hands. Raphael is also skilled in the use of a variety of ninja tools such as grappling hooks, crampons and smoke bombs. As expected of ninja, he is also a master of stealth.
As a mutant turtle he possesses qualities of turtles such as the ability to swim and hold his breath under water for long periods of time. Aside from providing a protective back covering, he can also tuck completely into his shell if needs be. It's by no means indestructible, as can be told by the many scars and chips he bears along it and his plastron. Being a mutant, he's able to recover a little quicker from injuries, although this is hardly instantaneous and depends greatly on the seriousness of the damage sustained.
Of his brothers, Raphael's the strongest of the team. He trains hard and his stamina, agility and dexterity are top notch. This turtle ain't no slow-poke! He'll take more of a beating and still force himself to stay in the fight as long as he can stay conscious.
When it comes to weaknesses, his temper is a double-edged blade that can give him great advantage or endanger him and those with him. It usually doesn't take much to set him off, and lack of clarity of thought can put him at a disadvantage.
Personal Item: Does a pair of weapons count towards 1 or would he only be able to have one sai?
